Thick-billed murre

The thick-billed murre or Brunnich's guillemot, Uria lomvia, is the largest living auk. They differ from the common murre by having a thicker, shorter bill with a white gape (bill) stripe. These birds are found in the polar and sub-polar Northern hemisphere. There are four subspecies, with one other subspecies being found on the Pacific coast and the other two in the Russian arctic.
