Alaska Scenic Railroad

We took the Alaska Scenic Railroad from Anchorage to Whittier and back. The railroad runs from Seward and Whittier through Anchorage to Fairbanks and beyond to Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Wainwright in the interior of the state. It carries both passengers and freight. The main line is 470 miles long, more than 500 miles including branch lines and sidings. It has no direct connection to any other railroad lines, but three rail barges link Whittier with Seattle and Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
